Q. Joining me here today after the first round of the Grant Thornton Invitational is Charley Hull and Michael Brennan. Y’all broke the record for the scramble in 18 holes at GTI. What went well today?
CHARLEY HULL: I feel like our games gelled together really well, and coming in on like the last few stretch of holes I felt like we had 20 under like we played so well.
MICHAEL BRENNAN: Yeah, Charley played amazing. I was really playing poorly the last couple days and I was worried last night. I was like, man, we might make some bogeys out there today. I hit a couple squirrely tee balls early, but then Charley was just so solid, made a couple huge putts early in the round and we just kind of got rolling from there.
CHARLEY HULL: It’s quite funny because actually I was changing my swing las week and I come on Tuesday and I could not even keep the ball on the planet. So I was actually pretty nervous today. Actually, it worked out pretty well.
MICHAEL BRENNAN: Yeah, it was good.
Q. It seemed like you guys were chatting a good bit out there. How do you think your energy and your conversation played off of one another?
CHARLEY HULL: It’s pretty good. I feel like we’re both pretty calm. I like asking a lot of questions because I like to learn off the guys, and he’s got a really good game. So he probably thought I was super nosey on what he’s hitting, but I was just learning. It was pretty calm out there.
MICHAEL BRENNAN: I thought so. I was kind of nervous to start like more than a normal tournament. I just didn’t want to let Charley down. It’s a different format, you know, I’m not used to playing and like having a partner to rely on, but I felt like I don’t know how you felt, but after a couple holes I felt like we kind of found our flow and
CHARLEY HULL: I think after the birdie on 3, like that’s when
MICHAEL BRENNAN: That birdie on 3 was huge. Yeah, yeah, I agree for sure.
Q. And then going into tomorrow with alternate shot, it takes a little bit more game planning. What is going to be your focus and do you already have a game plan?
MICHAEL BRENNAN: I don’t know. We just finished scoring and we saw Jeff and Adam, our caddies, were going through the yardages and they were getting dialed up. So probably listen to what they say. I listen to what Jeff says and it seems like Charley listens
CHARLEY HULL: Yeah.
MICHAEL BRENNAN: to what Adam says. I don’t know, just continue playing good golf.
Q. And then you don’t play very many team events once you get into professional golf. How does it feel to kind of have a fun season ender?
CHARLEY HULL: Yeah, it’s really good, it’s really fun. I enjoy it because we obviously don’t get to see the guys all year. It’s pretty cool, like everyone just coming together and like learn a few things like how they go about their round.
MICHAEL BRENNAN: Yeah, I agree. I don’t know many of the girls, just maybe one or two from junior golf and stuff. So getting to meet Charley has been really fun. She hit a couple nasty shots today. It’s just really is fun to watch.
CHARLEY HULL: I’ve got a question actually. Do you still think I’m intense? You can say yeah.
MICHAEL BRENNAN: Yeah. I mean, I don’t think it’s a bad thing.
CHARLEY HULL: OK, cool.
MICHAEL BRENNAN: Like you’re focused, which is good.
CHARLEY HULL: OK, that’s good. Yeah, that’s good.
MICHAEL BRENNAN: Yeah, it’s not like you you seem like you care.
CHARLEY HULL: Yeah, that’s good.
Q. Charley, do you still think he’s cool?
CHARLEY HULL: Yeah, yeah. I think intense and cool. It’s growing on me.
Q. And then we have a guest question from Charley’s niece.
Q. Are you guys having fun?
CHARLEY HULL: Yeah, we’re having really loads of fun. Are you having fun?
MICHAEL BRENNAN: I’m having a lot of fun.
CHARLEY HULL: We’re having more fun listening to your one-liners, you crack us up.
MICHAEL BRENNAN: Yeah, you’ve been awesome.
