Q. We have Lexi Thompson and Wyndham Clark with us. Another solid day here. Can you guys just talk about how the team chemistry was working out with alternate shot today?
WYNDHAM CLARK: This is really where the team chemistry is most important because if you get behind the eight ball and the momentum’s not good, you can really next thing you know you find yourself a few over par.
Early on obviously we had some mishaps, but then we felt really relaxed and chill out there and made some nice birdies. We just didn’t really make some putts coming in at the end, but it was a great day.
LEXI THOMPSON: Yep, what he said.
Q. How do you stay calm after the front nine? Like you said, starting off a little bit slow, just to bounce back?
LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, I think it’s a golf course that things like that can happen, especially the greens are pretty quick this week compared to CME week. Some of the pin locations for alternate shot were definitely difficult. We knew things like that could happen, but also the birdie opportunities are out there. So we just kind of stayed patient and gave ourselves some looks.
Q. It seems like the past two years this format in particular makes a big difference this week. Does it feel that way for you guys and how happy are you with the result today?
LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah
WYNDHAM CLARK: You know better than me.
LEXI THOMPSON: I would say it does come down to probably this format, it’s probably the most difficult for sure. Scramble I would say is the more enjoyable one. It’s definitely a little more stressful today.
Yeah, it’s just about being positive out there and giving your partner a look in the fairway and available shot into the green. That’s what we did. We just kind of stayed patient and positive out there.
Q. Different format tomorrow going into the final round a couple shots back. Is there a different strategy you guys are going to talk about after this or have you had time to talk about anything yet?
WYNDHAM CLARK: We haven’t talked about much strategy at all. I mean, really, if we could just get two balls in play and then play our best, make a ton of putts and hope we have a chance with the last five, six holes to win the tournament.
LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, really all we can do.
Q. Last one from me nongolf related, do you guys like country music? Do you think you’re going to make your way out to the concert and see Darius Rucker, OAR?
LEXI THOMPSON: Yeah, I am. I’m going to go for a little bit at least.
WYNDHAM CLARK: I’m on the fence. I love country, but I’m on the fence.
Q. Did you have any aha a moments like best moment, worst moment, like uhoh, you put your partner in a little pinch?
LEXI THOMPSON: Today? Yeah, I mean, I think we probably both had some of those moments, but that’s alternate shot, that’s going to happen. We’re not robots, we’re going to hit bad shots. Just a matter of
Q. Nothing really out of the ordinary?
WYNDHAM CLARK: The par 5, I hit it to where she was up against the tree or bush. That was a bad shot by me, and then she made an incredible recovery and I made a decent chip. She saved me there. I kind of put her into a bad spot and she really got us out of it.
Q. I asked a couple of other teams. Since there’s only 16 players from each, you know, pro league, do you approach the tournament and say you’re available, you want to play this year? Is this sought after among the ladies and the PGA TOUR, too? Like because there’s only 16 teams from each. Does your team approach this event and say, yeah, I would like to play, or how’s that work?
LEXI THOMPSON: I mean, I know when I played it last year or every year for that matter, I was always wanting to play it the following year because I love team events and being paired up with the guys is always a good time.
Q. Is this sought after by the PGA TOUR because of the limited
WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, it’s nice for sure this year because we don’t have Sentry the Tournament of Champions because it was canceled. We don’t play golf for a while, so it’s really nice to try to stay sharp. We never get to play with the girls, so it’s really fun. It’s such a relaxed, fun format that really it’s an opportunity to come work on your game, have fun and yeah, enjoy yourself.
